What are we all doing with our extra day off next week?

I hope you all enjoyed a taste of our 110 ‘Healthy tips’ last week – perhaps those of you who ordered the booklet have even been inspired to try out some of the tips over the Bank Holiday weekend?

You could, for example, head out for a day at the seaside; visit a local farm and pick your own fruit and veg; spend a day de-cluttering your home; try your hand at a new skill such as painting, origami or knitting – or simply explore any free museums or galleries in your local area.

Or if you’re feeling daring, why not take the opportunity to try something you have never done before?

For example, what about flying a kite? I’m sure many of you including myself have never thought of kite flying! With the May winds it’s the perfect time, and it’s quite easy to do in your local park - or if you’re feeling extra adventurous you could drive down to your nearest coast. Flying kites is also a great work-out for the upper body and your arms, so as well as having some fun you can be doing some exercise at the same time.

Or if you like cycling, what about a country bike ride? You could plan a ride down all those little winding lanes and enjoy the lovely fresh air. Or if you live in a city, head out to a park you have never been to before; I’m sure it won’t be too hard - the UK is full of beautiful parks! And one more relaxing activity for those of you who fancy spending the day at home, why not re-discover your garden and plant some seeds or flowers, this may be your last opportunity to get your garden in shape for summer.

I would love to hear what you decided to do with your Bank Holiday Monday, so make sure you keep me posted on all the interesting activities you get up to!

Celebrate with us and get healthy!

As regular blog readers will know, I work for Yakult – and occasionally I like to share some news about the ‘friendly bacteria’ people! And it’s an exciting time in the UK offices this week, as we’re celebrating a special date: the 110th anniversary of the birth of our founder Dr. Shirota.

To mark the occasion, we have launched a brand new booklet, The Little Book of Health Tips, packed with 110 simple, practical snippets of advice to help benefit overall health.

I’ve outlined a few of my favourites below to get you started but if you would like your own copy of booklet you can download it for free at www.yakult.co.uk/birthday.

And whilst you’re on the site, why not enter our fantastic competition? We’re offering ten people a chance to win £110 to spend on a heath-related activity - so why not try your luck and enter to tell us why you should win.

  • Make your own sushi. Sushi is nutritious (and delicious!) - and can be great fun to make. Find your nearest Japanese food stockist (or food health shop) and stock up on ingredients and then get creating.
  • If you don’t have a garden, plant your favourite seeds or bulbs in a window box.
  • If you haven’t drawn or painted a picture since school, give it a go – it can very therapeutic!
If you decide to experiment with some of our healthy tips, don’t forget to let me know how it goes. And if you have any other ingenious ‘little tips’, please do feel free to share them!
