I hope you all remembered to put your clocks forward this weekend and are making the most of those extra hours of daylight!
I really enjoyed the boat race this weekend and thought about what high intensity rowing for 17 minutes must have been like? I’m sure it’s quite tough, but can you imagine how many calories you must burn? Rowing jump starts your cardiovascular system and burns calories really fast; you can easily burn 700 calories in one hour and it’s great for improving leg, backs and arm strength.
To put a bit of excitement back into your normal exercise routine, why not try a sporting event at the gym? You could even make it a bit competitive by letting a few of your gym buddies join in; find out who can set the highest record on the rowing machine. Rowing machines have great calorie burning potential because they exercise larger muscle groups of both the upper and lower body regions.
If you live near a river why not try the real thing? Where you find a river, you will always find a local rowing club; you never know it could become your favourite hobby while getting fit at the same time! So why not put those extra daylight hours to good use – on the water!

I hope you all enjoyed the lovely spring sunshine last week! And I’m sure most of us are looking forward to the official start of British summertime this weekend – don’t forget to turn your clocks forward by one hour on Sunday! I know we’ll be losing that extra hour in bed but think of all the extra daylight in the mornings and evenings – plus we have plenty to look forward to with a long summer ahead!
So why not celebrate the arrival of British summertime by taking advantage of those extra daylight hours? This is a perfect opportunity to change your usual exercise routine by trying a new outdoor sport, such as tennis, cycling or running. Or why not team up with friends for a few games of rounders or Frisbee in the local park?
And once the weather is warm enough in the evening, you could even gather friends or family together and sit in the garden with a healthy picnic.
Personally, as the sun starts to rise earlier throughout April and May, I intend to get up extra early once a week and go for a brisk 30-minute walk before work.
Whatever you decide to do, let us know how you’ll be making the most of the day over the next few months!
